Reduced wind-energy production and rising electricity demand forced Aqualectra to temporarily switch off power in several areas.
Aqualectra began rotating the electricity supply on Saturday afternoon after decreasing wind speeds reduced the amount of energy generated by Curaçao’s wind turbines. At the same time, higher temperatures caused electricity demand to increase.
Several neighborhoods experienced temporary interruptions while Aqualectra worked to balance the electricity network. Residents are encouraged to charge essential devices, keep flashlights available, limit unnecessary electricity use and unplug sensitive equipment during an interruption.
